Feature Showcase #4: Feat Sources
Sources are one of the more unique parts of PAD’s design, allowing the feats you access to gain certain attributes you choose. At their core, sources are customizable modifiers that attach to your feats, changing or enhancing what they do.
What is a Source?
Sources is where the power of your feat comes from. So spellcasters would pull from different aspects of magical traditions and martial characters would weave different physical attributes into their features. When you select a feat, you also select a source of the same level to apply to it. Sources scale with training so your level 2 sources still retain relevance at higher levels.
Sources are divided into tiers based on the level of feat they can be applied to. A level 2 source can only be used with a feat of level 2.
I am tentatively allowing higher level feats to apply lower level sources but that’s still a WIP.
I.e Cleric Sources
Life - (Level 2)
Once per scene, when this feat affects a creature, you may restore a number of their Hit Dice determined by your training in this feat.
- Trained: +2 Hit Dice + Class Level
- Expert: +3 Hit Dice + Class Level. This feature can be used twice per scene instead of once.
- Master: +4 Hit Dice + Class Level, you can remove any condition afflicting the creature.
Persistence - (Level 6+)
Once per scene, when this feat affects a creature, you may extend its Duration by a number of rounds determined by your training in this feat. This source has no effect on feats with no listed duration.
- Expert: +2 Rounds. This feature can be used twice per scene instead of once.
- Master: +2 Rounds, once per scene you may ignore the first attempt to end the effect early (WIP)
Consecration - (Level 10)
Twice per scene, when this feat affects a creature:
- Master: Create a 15-foot consecrated area centered on the target until the end of its next turn. Allies in the area gain a +4 bonus to AC and gain 7 resistance to all damage types.
These feats all list what their base effect is as well as how it scales with training. You gain higher training in feats as you level up, listed in your class.
These feats also list the text “Once per scene” or “Twice per scene.”
I do not know what this means yet but Imagine its similar to a short rest.
